Fall Leaf Pick-Up

Fall Leaf Pick-Up

As part of its trash collection service, Goode Trash Service will pick up bagged leaves set out by Town residents on regularly scheduled trash collection days. This service is limited to 5 bags of leaves per household per collection day. Any remaining bags may be set out for pickup on the next trash collection day, but still observing the 5-bag limit.


Please do not place piles of loose leaves in the street, as this is not part of the trash disposal service.

Holiday Concert on December 18

The Bella Music School is hosting a Holiday Concert at College of Southern Maryland Leonardtown Campus on Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 4:30 PM- 6:00 PM. The concert is being held inthe A Building Auditorium with free admission. This concert is a winter student showcase featuring holiday favorties, classics and much more! Christmas on the Square on Friday, November 26


The Town of Leonardtown is hosting its Annual Christmas on the Square on Washington Street in Historic downtown Leonardtown on Friday, November 26th from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

The main stage will have a variety of entertainment including seasonal music and Christmas carols, costumed characters and more. Other holiday festivities around the Square and down Fenwick Street include sleigh rides, train rides, fire truck rides, hay rides, horse & carriage rides, a petting zoo, pony rides, live nativity, face painting, make-and-take crafts for children, an ice sculpture demonstration, visits with Santa, cookie decorating at the “Gingerbread House” (Kevin’s Corner CafĂ©) and more! See Frosty the Snowman,Pinch from the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, Mrs. Claus, and of course, the big guy himself, Santa Claus!

Watch for Santa’s arrival and lighting of the Town Christmas Tree at 7:00 p.m.! You'll also want to visit Winnegardner Showroom for the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad’s Annual Christmas Festival. Decorated trees and wreaths, a slide show and photo display of days past in St. Mary’s County, toy collections and crafts are just some of the highlights of this Christmas Festival. You may also prepare a letter or card to be sent to a member of the Armed Forces.

A free round-trip shuttle bus service will be provided by STS Transportation into the Leonardtown Square from the College of Southern Maryland-Leonardtown Campus. Vehicular traffic into the downtown area will be detoured to designated parking areas and streets around Town.

Christmas on the Square is sponsored by the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department, the Leonardtown Business Association, the Commissioners of Leonardtown, and community partners Quality Built Homes, Winegardner Auto Group, Sabre Systems, and College of Southern Maryland. Veteran's Day Parade and Ceremony on November 11

The Town of Leonardtown, The Board of County Commissioners for St. Mary’s County, and parade organizers invite the public to salute America’s Veterans at the Annual Veterans Day Parade in Leonardtown, on Thursday, November 11, 2010! The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Ryken High School and will feature Veterans, dignitaries, elected officials, local school marching bands, military units, color guards, bagpipers, classic and antique cars, boy and girl scouts, cheerleaders, motorcycles, horses, fire, police, emergency personnel and equipment. Immediately following the parade, spectators are encouraged to remain in the Town Square for a Veterans Memorial Ceremony to include patriotic music, and laying of wreaths.

Parade participants are requested to arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, participants should check in with parade coordinators at Ryken High School for their line-up assignment.

Spectators are encouraged to view the parade along Fenwick and Washington Street and park at the Governmental Center and take the free round-trip St. Mary’s County Transit System (STS) shuttle bus service into downtown Leonardtown to view the parade and ceremony. The shuttle will be running from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Officers of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office will provide traffic control, and Parade Volunteers will assist with parking and street detours.

Local wins NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

Kenny Sothoron, Sports Supervisor has announced that Leonardtown Elementary second grader places first in NFL Punt Pass & Kick (PPK) Competition. Grant Deaton, a second grader in Mrs. Young’s class at Leonardtown Elementary in St. Mary’s County Maryland, has placed first in his age group in all rounds of the NFL’s PPK events. Grant will be eligible for competition at FedEx Field during a Washington Redskins football game.

Grant is a member of the inaugural season 75lbs. Leonardtown Wildcats where his father is an assistant coach. Grant has many hobbies but enjoys football, soccer, basketball, Cub Scouts and riding his dirt bike.

Grant says he is looking forward to seeing his name up on the Washington Redskins’ jumbo tron.
