Trick on Treat on the Square - Cancelled

Due to the weather forecast for Saturday, October 29th, the 2011 Trick-or-Treat on the Square event in Leonardtown Square is cancelled. This also includes the Scarecrow-Making activity and the SMAWL Pet Costume Contest activity. There is no raindate for this event.

Trick or Treat on the Square

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2011
Come to the Leonardtown Square and enjoy a fun fall day!
1 PM – 3 PM Scarecrow-Making with the Old Towne Crafters. There is a cost of $8 per scarecrow for supplies.
1 PM – 4 PM SMAWL Pet Costume Contest - - Have a photo of your pet taken to be entered into SMAWL’s Facebook pet costume contest and pick up a special treat for your pet! There will also be an appearance by SMAWLIE!
3 PM – 4 PM Trick-or-Treating downtown Merchants -- kids can have fun dressing up in their favorite Halloween costume and “trick-or-treating” participating downtown merchants around the Square. Trick-or-treating is free; sponsored by the Leonardtown Business Association.

Greenwell hosts 2nd Annual Monster Rockfish Festival

Greenwell hosts 2nd Annual Monster Rockfish Festival Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 11am - 5pm Greenwell State Park Hollywood, MD 20636 www.greenwellfoundation.org

The Festival features the 2nd Annual Monster Rockfish Cook-Off featuring restaurants from the greater Maryland area. Taste and vote for the People's Choice Award! Enjoy Rockfish tastings and other seasonal culinary delights, beer and local wine; music; tours of historic Rosedale Manor; awards ceremony for Monster Rockfish Tournament (held the day prior on Sat., Oct. 29); pony rides; horseback riding demos; kayaking demos and rides (weather permitting); children's activities; and artists and crafters and outdoor outfitter vendors will display their wares. The Festival is a designated SAFE TRICK-OR-TREAT ZONE. Greenwell will offer candy and other treats to children.

All proceeds benefit the Greenwell Foundation's inclusive programs including horseback riding lessons, kayaking, summer camps and Nature Time. Proceeds also help Greenwell serve as a host site for Southern Maryland Vacations for Vets, a respite program for our nation's wounded servicemen and women.

The Monster Rockfish Tournament takes place the day before on Sat., Oct. 29. It's the Chesapeake Bay's biggest open rockfish tournament with $130,000 in prizes. And, the Greenwell Foundation receives a portion of the proceeds from the tournament.

Holiday Home Tour to Benefit Health Share of St. Mary's

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR TO BENEFIT HEALTH SHARE OF ST. MARY'S

One of Southern Maryland's most popular holiday events. Sunday, December 4, 2011. From 11 am to 4 pm. Tour 7 beautiful, private homes joyfully decorated for the holiday season. Gather a group of friends for a fun afternoon discovering what these elegant homes look like inside! All homes on this year's tour are located within 5 miles of each other in the Leonardtown area off Rt. 244 & Breton Beach Road in the Medley's Neck area. Signs indicating the homes will be clearly displayed on the roadway.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.TicketDerby.com and search under Events for Holiday Home Tour to Benefit Health Share. Tickets may also be purchased at Community Bank of Tri-County in Leonardtown; Bank of America, Leonardtown; Cedar Point Credit Union on Maple Drive in California; PNC Bank in Leonardtown; Traditions of Loveville, 28420 Point Lookout Road, Loveville; The Apple Basket, 27056 Mount Zion Church Rd (Right off Rt 235), Mechanicsville; and, The Vintage Source, 22080 Newtowne Neck Road, Compton (this location will have tickets only on Nov. 18-19). Tickets may be purchase on the day of the event at any of the 7 home locations. Tickets are $50 per person for all homes or $10 per house.

Lunch by Kevin's Korner Kafe will be available for purchase at one of the homes. ALL purchases are tax deductible and 100% of proceeds benefit Health Share of St. Mary's, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the working poor of St. Mary's County obtain medical treatment.

Herb Reed and The Platters! Stroll back in time with this Hall of Fame musical group. Their hits include “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”, “The Great Pretender”, “Only You”, and “My Prayer”. This successful vocal group of the early Rock & Roll era were the first to have a Top Ten album in America. Mr. Herb Reed has managed, performed, and toured as The Platters or Herb Reed and The Platters continuously since 1953. His voice is heard on every one of the nearly 400 recordings of The Platters. The show at Leonardtown High School on 10 December 2011 will include their top hits and a selection of Holiday music. Doors open at 6:00 pm, show begins at 7:00 pm. Mission of Mercy (MOM) is a national endeavor that has been providing free dental services for underserved and uninsured adults since 2000. MOM of SoMD is being coordinated by volunteers from St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties. As outpouring of dentists from across the state of Maryland – along with dental hygienists, dental assistants, lab technicians, other health professionals, and a myriad of lay volunteers will work in concert with community groups and agencies to better the oral health of individuals who come to the clinic. The two-day (one weekend) clinic for Southern Maryland (our first!) will be held in June 2012 using portable equipment for cleanings, x-rays, extractions, and fillings. We will serve as many adults as time, volunteers, and supplies allow. All dental services are provided by board certified dental and medical professionals.

We are hosting Herb Reed and The Platters as a FUNraising event for MOM So MD.

Following the Antique Tractor Parade is the 1st Annual Golf Cart Cruz - Trophies will be awarded one hour after the Parade and Cruz!


Head on over to the Fire House for a bull roast catered by Kevin's Corner Cafe to benefit the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department. LVFD's famous scalded oysters, and more.

Antique Tractor Parade - Sunday, October 9 @ 1 pm

The Southern Maryland Antique Power Association is benefiting the Christmas in April Foundation of St. Mary's County as they hold their second annual Antique Tractor Parade through Historic Leonardtown.

A Parade of Power that is fun for all ages! John Deere, Farmall, Oliver, Ford, Massey Ferguson equipment and more! These beautiful and hard working machines are over 50 years old - some restored while others will be in their work clothes.

Come on down to Leonardtown, bring a chair, pick a spot along the square on Sunday, October 9th - the parade begins at 1 pm.
