CHOPTICON HIGH SCHOOL’S FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA VISIT ASKEY, ASKEY & ASSOCIATES, CPA, LLC
January 26, 2010 - Askey, Askey & Associates, CPA, LLC welcomed Chopticon High School’s Future Business Leaders of America to spend the day and learn “how we do business” in the accounting world. Robert W. Askey, CPA, CFE, CFFA introduced the students to the Askey team while providing them valuable insights of everyday business. The visit was designed to expose the students to the accounting profession and open their eyes and minds toward degrees in accounting by showing them that accounting is more than just crunching numbers.
The students are scheduled to revisit Askey, Askey & Associates to engage in additional activities such as preparing sample tax returns designed to teach them the necessary steps in completing an accurate return. Askey will guide the students on a step-by-step approach.
“Working with the Chopticon FBLA members has been a pleasure. It is an enjoyable vehicle for Askey, Askey & Associates, CPA, LLC to give back to the community and help our future business leaders in the process”, said Robert Askey.
According to the president of FBLA-PBL chapter, Jonathan Munshaw, everyone learned a lot and had a great time. “Bob Askey is obviously a fantastic business person and a devoted family man and we are looking forward to visiting Askey, Askey & Associates, CPA, LLC again”, said Mr. Munshaw.

Seeking Homestay Host Families
for International Students
Heritage Student Foundation (HSF) is running an International Student
Enrichment Program (ISEP) for students from other countries to experience life
and culture in America. Currently we have two students attending St. Mary’s
Ryken High School and seeking a loving host family.
HSF is seeking Homestay families who want to participate in offering
opportunities to these students and are open to experiencing new cultures. The
host family will be compensated $1400 monthly for the duration of the students’

Annual Book Sale at the Fairgrounds
The annual book sale to benefit St. Mary's County libraries will be held Friday, March 12th through Sunday, March 14th, 2010 at the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. The hours are:
Friday, March 12 - 5-8 PM, Members only (can join at the door)
Saturday, March 13 - 10 AM - 5 PM
Sunday, March 14 - 12 NOON - 4:30 PM
Friends of the Library are seeking volunteers before and during the book sale.
In addition, donations can be taken to the fairgrounds during the following hours:

Monday, March 8 through Wednesday, March 10 - 10 AM - 8 PM
Thursday, March 11 - 10 AM - 5 PM

Commercial Trash Collection Notice
Two commercial trucks will being pickups around 10:00 a.m. today, Friday, February 12, 2010.
They will only be able to pickup where the path to the container is clear.
Commercial customers please clear a path as soon as possible so they can pick up.
They cannot guarantee that they will be able to make return trips this weekend.

If weather prohibits recycling collection on February 10, it will be serviced on February 17.

This Message Is A Reminder About An Important Part Of Filing Your
Maryland Income Tax Return.
Just under the address label is a place for you to name St. Mary’s County as where you reside. For those living in the incorporated limits of Leonardtown, you must also write the word Leonardtown in the box right beside St. Mary’s. Additionally, your physical address should be entered in the address box. Some residents use a P. O. box as their mailing address.
Why Is This Important?
A large part of the Town of Leonardtown’s operating budget is local income tax. The only way to be sure that Leonardtown is receiving all it is entitled to receive is by having all residents properly complete the City, town or taxing area box when they file their Maryland income tax return. This does not increase your tax at all. It just allows for proper distribution so your income tax dollars come back to be used right here in Leonardtown.
If you use a tax preparer, please make sure they know to type Leonardtown in the City, town or taxing area box.
