Message from Mayor Burris regarding Emergency Closures

Leonardtown Community:

As most people are aware the Governor of Maryland has proclaimed a state of emergency and catastrophic health emergency to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the state.  There are a number of restrictions that have been put in place on public and social gatherings.  Many employers are choosing to mandate teleworking, and today, sit down restaurants, fitness centers, bars and theaters are to be closed effective at 5:00 p.m.

The Governor has specifically stated that he does not want to shut down all commerce and therefore is asking small businesses to avoid large gatherings over 50 people in their shops but they can at this time stay open to assure that items that residents need are available.

The Town Council and I are in close contact with the Governor’s staff and will continue to work for our residents and businesses to ensure their safety.  This link is available to our citizens to answer ongoing questions. https://businessexpress.maryland.gov/coronavirus

The Town staff and I will remain available to assist in any way possible.

Sincerely,

Dan Burris, Mayor
