Holiday Trash and Recyclable Collection Schedule - Slides Forward One Day

Holiday Trash and Recyclable Collection Schedule:

New Year’s Day is on a Monday, so for that week slide your pickup day one day forward.

For example: Trash pickup scheduled for Monday will slide forward to Tuesday and so on for that week.

Recyclables will also slide forward on those weeks and be picked up on Thursday.

Spectator Parking Instructions for Christmas on the Square
Friday, November 24th, 5 - 9 p.m.
(roads close at 3 p.m. for event set up)

Plan ahead so you have time to park and make your way to the Square promptly at 7:00 PM for Santa’s arrival and the lighting of the Town Christmas Tree!
Please note the following measures and changes that will be in effect for this year’s event:

- NEW - Courthouse Drive, Guyther Drive, Camalier Drive, and portions of Park Avenue, Shadrick Street, Pope Street and Church Street will also have extremely restricted access before and during the event. 

- NEW – the Parking lot behind the Courthouse will only be accessible via Lawrence Avenue to Tudor Hall Road (behind the Courthouse) as Courthouse Drive will be closed to through traffic.

- NEW – residents living around Tudor Hall should enter Town via Lawrence Avenue to access their neighborhood, as access to Courthouse Drive will be restricted.

- NEW – the Firehouse lot and Old Carnival Lot (Shadrick and Lawrence) will not be available for public parking this year. It is reserved for emergency personnel only. 

- NEW – once in-Town parking lots are full, spectators will be directed to auxiliary lots.

- NEW – for cars to exit Town efficiently and safely after Santa’s arrival, the Firetruck rides will be shutting down completely at 6:45 PM. Please plan accordingly.

- Spectators are encouraged to park at the College of Southern Maryland, and take advantage of the free shuttle bus service which runs between the College and the Leonardtown Square from 4:30 – 9:30 PM. A wheelchair accessible shuttle will also be available at this location, courtesy of The Center for Life Enrichment. 

- Free parking can also be found at Leonardtown Elementary School and St. Mary’s Ryken High School, in addition to designated lots along Lawrence Avenue, Washington Street and Park Avenue. 

- For event safety, spectators are asked to obey all posted No Parking signs as well as police and volunteer instructions.
We appreciate the cooperative efforts of Town officials, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, the St. Mary’s County Emergency Management Division, Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack, St. Mary’s County Fire and Rescue Chiefs, the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Departmentand other local volunteer fire departments and rescue squads, for putting in place plans for increased safety and security. Downtown Sidewalk Snow and Ice Control Program

The Commissioners of Leonardtown are currently accepting bids to perform downtown sidewalk snow and ice removal services within the corporate limits of Leonardtown. Approximately 1.7 miles of municipal sidewalks in the downtown business district will be included in the contract.

Since bidders will have different equipment, the contract will be awarded on a “best value” basis. The bid will consist of hourly rates for various pieces of equipment. The bid will be for one two-year term with two two-year options.

Interested bidders should obtain a copy of the RFP by contacting Laschelle McKay, Town Administrator POB 1, 22670 Washington Street, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. Or call 301-475-9791 or by email at Laschelle.mckay@leonardtownmd.gov.

A pre-bid conference will be held on November 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Town office conference room. A bid opening will be held December 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., at which time they will be publicly opened and read.

Rte 5 and Washington Street - DETOUR Upgrade Work - October 22 to October 26

The Commissioners of Leonardtown will be upgrading the Water System from the intersection of MD Rte. 245 and MD Rte. 5 heading South on Rte. 5 to Rose Hill Dr. at Academy Hills.

The work will start 10/22/2017 and End 11/30/2017 weather permitting.

The work hours will be from 9pm to 5am Sunday night thru Thursday night.

The entrance of Washington St. (off of Rte. 5) will be closed 10/22 thru 10/26 from 9pm to 5am.  

A detour will be setup at the intersection of MD Rte. 245 and MD Rte. 5 during the Washington Street work.

The remaining duration of the project will consist of a shoulder work and Lane closure as the project moves South on MD Rte. 5.

The Commissioners of Leonardtown are seeking proposals from interested companies to install a dry, automatic fire sprinkler system and a fire alarm system in the Town Hall located at
22670 Washington Street, Leonardtown.

All work should be done in accordance with NFPA-13 and state and local codes. Parties interested in submitting a proposal should contact the Town Administrator by calling 301-475-9791 or by email at Laschelle.mckay@leonardtownmd.gov.

 A site visit is recommended to obtain an understanding of the project. Proposals will be accepted
until 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2017.

TONIGHT, FRIDAY, October 13, 7 p.m. service, 8 p.m. procession. Fatima Centenary Mass & Procession starting at St Aloysius Catholic Church. A large crowd is expected. Please come early for parking and be cautious of pedestrians throughout the Town. Drivers should expect delays from 8 - 10 p.m.
Saturday, October 14, 8:30 a.m., SMR / Blaine Whorl 5K Run/Walk St. Mary's Ryken High School for their homecoming SMR 5K/Blaine Whorl Memorial Run. You can register for the 5K the day of the event for $30, SMR Staff/Faculty/Student discounts are available. Prizes will be awarded for the top qualifiers and prizes for the kids 500 meter pumpkin dash, There will be music, refreshments, games and fun for the whole family. All of the proceeds will go towards the Blaine Whorl Scholarship.

Tractor Parade Saturday 10/8

We are watching the weather closely for Sunday, but as of right now, the parade is going to proceed as scheduled! If the Antique Power Association decides they need to cancel, it will be posted here. Parade starts at Leonardtown Elementary School at 1 p.m. and proceeds trough the streets of Town. At the end of the parade there will be a static display of tractors and antique trucks available for pictures, as well as the announcement of award
and raffle winners.

Town of Leonardtown Real Property Tax Invoices - PAYMENT INFORMATION

The Leonardtown real property tax invoices were mailed on August 15th. If you have not received an invoice by August 31st, please contact the Town Office.

Please use the following mailing address - P.O. Box 1751. This is different from the address used for making utility payments.

If you use online banking to make payments, you must also change the remittance address; otherwise, the payment will be posted to your Town utility account.

Credit card payments are not accepted for property taxes. Do not use the online utility billing payment portal to make tax payments.

Request for Proposals for Construction of ELEVATOR HOISTWAY IN LEONARDTOWN TOWN HALL

The Commissioners of Leonardtown (also referred to as Town) are soliciting bids to establish a firm fixed price contract to provide construction services to construct an elevator hoistway in the Town Hall located at 22670 Washington Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650. The “Project” will consist of all the elements required to construct the elevator hoistway for installation of a 2,100 pound hydraulic, machine roomless elevator. The Contractor shall accomplish all Work, including such additional, extra, and incidental work considered necessary by the Commissioners of Leonardtown to complete the Project, as defined herein, in a satisfactory and acceptable manner. The Contractor shall furnish all plant equipment, tools, materials, labor, and incidentals necessary to carry out the Project to satisfactory completion within the time period specified and in accordance with the Contract Documents. The Commissioners of Leonardtown shall award a contract to a single bidder for all services. Contract administration shall be provided by the Town Administrator for the Commissioners of Leonardtown.

Sealed bids for this project are due by 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2017. 

A site visit may be scheduled by calling 301-475-9791. This is an opportunity for interested bidders to ask questions, request clarifications, and obtain additional information regarding the project.

Notice is hereby given that the Commissioners of Leonardtown have passed, and the Mayor has approved, Ordinance No. 178 and 179, Sale of Surplus Real Property.  A fair summary of the ordinance will follow:

Ordinance No. 178- An ordinance for the purpose of approving the Commissioners of Leonardtown to sell property known as Map 127, Parcel 86, which was previously declared surplus property.

Ordinance No. 179- An ordinance for the purpose of approving the Commissioners of Leonardtown to sell property known as Map 127, Parcel 22, which was previously declared surplus property.

Ordinance No. 178 and 179 will become effective July 3, 2017.  Full text of this ordinance may be obtained at the Town Office at 22670 Washington Street, Leonardtown, MD between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

             The Commissioners of Leonardtown are seeking to install a passenger elevator in a two story existing building.  Parties interested in submitting a proposal for the equipment please contact Laschelle McKay at 301-475-9791 or email at Laschelle.mckay@leonardtownmd.gov.  The proposed elevator equipment should be sized to fit in no larger than a 10’ x 10’ footprint for the hoistway and any required equipment room.  The distance between the first and second floor is 14’.  A site visit is required to determine the specific elevator best suited for the space.  Proposals will be accepted until 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 30th.

MD 5 AT ABELL AND MOAKLEY STREETS INTERSECTION RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT JULY 11, 2017


Route 5 Widening Project - Leonardtown

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) invites interested persons to attend an open house about continued design work on the MD 5 (Point Lookout Road) at Abell and Moakley Streets Intersection Reconstruction project in Leonardtown, St Mary’s County. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and traffic operations along MD 5 while supporting existing and planned development in the area.
WHAT: The open house will familiarize attendees with the project and provide an opportunity to discuss project details. Maps and displays will be provided showing an overview of the proposed design, and MDOT SHA representatives will be available to answer project-related questions. There will be no formal presentation. You may arrive at any time during meeting hours and walk through the display area at your own pace.

With food and music afterwards at the Leonardtown Wharf. Proceeds provide training and college scholarships for St. Mary's First Responders and their families, as well as funding for Rotary special projects.
